This service offers an economic overview of commercial marine fishing in Finland, based on the latest financial statements. The source material consists of the Natural Resources Institute Finland’s catch statistics, Statistics Finland’s data on financial statements, and income statement data collected from the coastal fisheries.
The financial information pertaining to the industry and its companies is primarily based on the financial statement data collected from the commercial fishing companies by Statistics Finland. Income statement information submitted by coastal fishing companies is used as the source material for small-scale coastal fishing (fishing that is mainly carried out with fixed traps and vessels of under ten metres in length). This information is collected by theNatural Resources Institute Finland trough an annual account survey. The Natural Resources Institute Finland has calculated financial key indicators for different sectors of the fishing industry on the basis of financial statements.
The information held in the Marine Fishery Service covers all of the commercial marine fishing companies in Finnish marine region that have reported their catches. No financial key indicators are yet available for companies fishing in internal waters.
The latest statistics cover the year preceding the current year. The data that Statistics Finland collects on the financial statements of companies in the fishing industry is only made available to the Natural Resources Institute Finland in the year after the financial statements are published, meaning that the latest data covers the preceding year. Time series of financial indicators in the Marine Fishery Service are presented at nominal value.
The service consists of two sections:
A time series beginning in 2008 that shows financial statements and key indicators for individual financial years classified by the type of fishing.
Results from user-defined parameters (‘Own Criteria’): In the ‘Own Criteria’ section, users can select their desired report and the company criteria that will be used to group the data for sum calculation (classifiers). These reports can also be created in Swedish and English.
