Background Information SOIL CLASS INFORMATION taloustohtori.luke.fi/maannostiedot taloustohtori.luke.fi/sv/jordman-klassifikation taloustohtori.luke.fi/en/soil-class-information The Soil Class Information online service of the EconomyDoctor portal maintained by the Natural Resources Institute Finland (Luke) provides information on the prevalence of different soil types in Finland's agricultural fields. The data are based on Luke's soil classification database. The soil classification database is a digital dataset containing information on soils and their characteristics, the distribution of soil types, and their natural properties. Version 1.0 of the soil classification database was overlaid with the basic field parcels from the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry Information Centre (Tike) field parcel register for 2011, and the resulting information was aggregated to the municipal level. The soil type of each field parcel was determined based on this overlay. This process produced datasets describing the soil types of agricultural land by municipality. The service consists of two sections: 1. Standard Tables Users can select desired reports from a set of predefined standard outputs. The service provides standardized reports based on three datasets: - Soil classification data from Luke's soil database according to the international WRB2007 classification system. - Corresponding soil classification data according to the Finnish soil classification system for topsoil. - Corresponding soil classification data according to the Finnish soil classification system for subsoil. Standard tables are available using three regional classifications; major regions (NUTS 2), regions (NUTS 3) and national subsidy areas. In the reports, soil types are divided into two main categories mineral soils and organic soils. These categories are further divided into subclasses and soil type groups. For each soil type, both the area and its relative share of the total agricultural land area are presented. 2. User-Defined Reports ("Own Criteria") In the Own Criteria section, users can select the desired report and regional classification. The reference year is fixed in the selection options. Users can choose from reports based on different soil classification systems: the international WRB2007 soil classification system, soil classification data using the national classification system for topsoil and soil classification data using the national classification system for subsoil. There are three report options based on different datasets, as well as corresponding standard reports in which the soil type classification has been simplified.
