Calculation Principles The results presented in the service are based on Luke's extended Structural Statistics of Agricultural and Horticultural Enterprises. The dataset includes all agricultural and horticultural enterprises in Finland. The service allows users to examine the concentration development of agriculture by production line or production branch, and by year, from two different perspectives (Report 1 or Report 2). The user formulates a query through a series of drop-down menus and selects the regional and/or production line group for which the results are to be produced. EconomyDoctor then answers the query by generating a results table. Report 1: What share (%) or quantity of hectares, livestock units, or Standard Output is controlled by the largest or smallest farms in Finland? The results report provides answers by production line, for example: - "The largest 20% of farms control x% of the agricultural land area." (In 2024, the largest 20% of dairy farms controlled 45% of the agricultural land used by dairy farms.) - "The largest 20% of farms control x hectares of agricultural land." (In 2024, the largest 20% of dairy farms controlled approximately 185,000 hectares of agricultural land.) - "The smallest 50% of farms control x% of the agricultural land area." (In 2024, the smallest 50% of dairy farms controlled 23% of the agricultural land used by dairy farms.) - "The smallest 70% of farms control x% of the agricultural land area." (In 2024, the smallest 70% of cereal farms controlled 36% of the agricultural land used by cereal farms.) Report 2: What percentage or number of farms is required, when ranked by hectares, livestock units, or Standard Output, to account for a given share of the total hectares, livestock units, or Standard Output controlled by the largest or smallest farms in Finland? The results report provides answers by production line, for example: - "To achieve a 50% share of Standard Output, x% of the largest farms are required." (In 2024, approximately 19% of Finland's largest cattle farms were required to produce 50% of the total output of cattle farms.) - "To achieve a 20% share of agricultural land area, x% of the largest farms are required." (In 2024, within the cereal farm production line, Finland's five largest cereal farms cultivated 20% of the total agricultural land used by cereal farms.) - "To achieve a 20% share of agricultural land area, x largest farms are required." (In 2024, the 233 largest dairy farms cultivated 20% of the agricultural land used by dairy farms.) User Interface Selection Options Key results are available through predefined time series reports covering the period from 2000 onwards (2000-202x). In the "Own Criteria" -section, the contents of Reports 1 and 2 can be defined more flexibly. The desired query is created through a series of drop-down menus, after which the user selects the regional and/or production line group for which the results are to be produced. EconomyDoctor then answers the query by generating a results table. The available selections include, among others: - Whether the analysis should start with the smallest farms or the largest farms. - What percentage of farms should be included (20 % - 70 %). - Whether hectares, livestock units, or Standard Output (SO) are examined. - Whether relative shares (%) or numbers of farms are examined. The user then selects the years, production lines, and, if desired, a regional classification. The web service calculates the results report in real time and produces the answer to the selected query.
