CLASSIFICATION OF AGRICULTURAL AND HORTICULTURAL HOLDINGS
FARM SIZE
The classification of enterprises by type of farming, branch of production, and farm size is based on the euro-denominated SO (Standard Output) determined for each crop and animal species. The standard output is the euro-denominated return available for sale or for use on the farm per animal or crop hectare.
Standard outputs are calculated by region every three years for each crop and farm animal. The calculation, carried out every three years, is based on the regional average yields, average outputs, and product prices calculated from the previous five years.
When the enterprise's actual crop hectares and animal numbers are multiplied by these product-specific euro-denominated SO standard outputs, a euro-denominated SO sum is obtained for each farm. The enterprise's economic farm size is based on its magnitude, and the enterprise's type of farming classification is based on its composition.
The enterprise's crop areas and livestock numbers are multiplied by the product-specific standard outputs. The sum of these yields the economic size of the enterprise.
Enterprises are divided into classes according to their economic size as shown below. The agricultural structural services and the Aggregate Accounts service also include small agricultural and horticultural enterprises whose standard output is less than 2,000 euros. The FADN/FSDN/Profitability bookkeeping reviews only include enterprises with an SO of 15,000 euros or more.

TYPES OF FARMING
To calculate the enterprise's type of farming, the standard outputs from different products or product groups are compared with each other. If at least 2/3 of the total standard output consists of a single product, the enterprise belongs to the type of farming corresponding to this product. If no such product is found, the farm is classified as a mixed farm.
The types of farming used in the basic reports are:
1: Cereal farms
2: Other crop farms
3: Greenhouse enterprises
4: Open-field horticulture enterprises
5: Dairy farms
6: Other cattle farms
7: Sheep and goat farms
8: Pig farms
9: Poultry farms
10: Mixed farms
11: Unclassified farms.
The type of farming "11: unclassified farms" includes farms for which a type of farming could not be determined. They cultivate crops whose production cannot be harvested/sold according to subsidy conditions. In this case, these farms do not have products that generate standard output, and therefore, a primary crop cannot be determined based on it to define the type of farming.
