FADN/FSDN/Profitability bookkeeping
Agricultural profitability bookkeeping started in Finland in 1912. After Finland joined the EU in 1995, data concerning Finnish agriculture from the profitability bookkeeping material was also submitted to the EU's Farm Accountancy Data Network (FADN). In 2025, the scope of the network was expanded to include monitoring the sustainability of farms through the FSDN (Farm Sustainability Data Network). Today, the operations are maintained and developed by Luke's Statistical Services.
FADN/FSDN/profitability bookkeeping monitors the economic development of agricultural and horticultural enterprises based on business data collected from the bookkeeping farms.
Data obtained from the FADN/FSDN profitability bookkeeping farms is utilized in, among other things, research, agricultural administration, financial advisory services, advocacy, agricultural education, the media, on the bookkeeping farms themselves, and in other enterprises.
Joining profitability bookkeeping
The goal is to maintain the number of FADN/FSDN bookkeeping farms at a sample of 650 farms (target from 2024 onwards), so new farms are continuously accepted into the network. Participation is completely free of charge for agricultural entrepreneurs, and enrolment can be done continuously through the organizations collecting the data. Those responsible for the operations at ProAgria Centres and the Finnish Glasshouse Growers' Association provide advice on starting FADN/FSDN bookkeeping.
Data protection in profitability bookkeeping
Everyone participating in the processing of FADN/FSDN profitability bookkeeping data is bound by strict confidentiality. They do not have the right to disclose the data or the names of the entrepreneurs to any external party. Farm-specific data is completely confidential and is not published in any form. The statistical runs required for research purposes are carried out within the Statistical Services unit, and only average results are released for external use.
